Membership Guidelines

My Inner Harbour is intended to be a warm, supportive environment for all members. To maintain a safe, welcoming space please adhere to the following guidelines:
  1. Treat the space with respect. Be gentle with furniture and materials. Clean up spills and leave the space close to how you found it. Please do not remove materials or books from My Inner Harbour.
  2. Treat others members with respect and kindness. Be mindful of our varying needs and practice a stance of curiosity and compassion.
  3. The Body, Mind & Spirit rooms are intended for quiet engagement with the materials & prompts. If you would like to chat with other members please feel free to use the community rooms. You are welcome to bring materials from the other rooms with you.
  4. While we hope that the Body, Mind & Spirit rooms will feel peaceful, we know that noise is part of shared space. There will be doorbells, children, hallway conversations, tea kettles or coffee machines at various times. We ask members to practice patience, awareness of their surroundings, and consideration for other members as much as possible.
  5. We strongly encourage all members to put away their phones during their time at My Inner Harbour. Our phones are excellent tools and excellent distractions. My Inner Harbour encourages members to be as present as possible to their physical surroundings, themselves, the self-care practices they are engaging in and other members while on site. Note: Parents with children checked in with the supervisor in the Children’s Area, will need to have their phones accessible for communication purposes. Please see below.
  6. The children’s area will be supervised as soon as hiring is complete and parents are welcome to sign their child in with the staff member. Parents and caregivers are expected to stay on the premises at all times. You will need to provide a cell number so the staff can text you if your child needs you. If your child prefers you to stay with them in the children’s area, please feel free to get supplies from other areas of My Inner Harbour as needed.
  7. Memberships may be purchased online or at My Inner Harbour. Members have control over their privacy settings and can choose auto-renew functions. Membership is month-to-month and may be cancelled at any time.
  8. When arriving at My Inner Harbour, please knock, ring the doorbell or call us at 236-312-7376 to gain entry. We keep doors locked for the safety and peace of mind of our members. Please sign in and out at the office each time you visit. This helps us keep track of who is in the building in case of emergency. You will need your membership number to sign in.
  9. You may bring a guest to My Inner Harbour once a month at no charge. Please be respectful of this limit. If a guest would like to come more than once a drop-in fee will apply.
  10. Tea and coffee, as well as mugs, are provided in the kitchenettes. Please clean up after yourself.
  11. We gladly accept most gently used donations of craft materials, children's toys, books or other wellness materials. Please check with us before bringing in items.
  12. My Inner Harbour strives to be both affordable and sustainable. We have a sliding scale available and offer energy exchange where it is a good fit. Please ask a staff member or send us an email myinnerharbour(at)gmail.com. Children under 12 are free with an adult membership. Children between 12 and 18 may choose a “Student” membership or families can use the Group membership.
  13. My Inner Harbour is currently located in a heritage home with a staircase to the front door and two individual steps at the back door. We are working on ways to make the building more accessible. As this is a temporary lease our options are currently limited. The Body, Mind & Spirit rooms, the community room and a washroom are all located on the main floor. There are stairs to the children’s area and the coworking space.
  14. The community room is available to book for groups if the event or workshop is in keeping with the spirit of My Inner Harbour and its values. For members, booking a group room for an event is free. For non-members or for professional use purposes the room is available for $30/hr during open hours and $50/hr during non-open hours. Please send an email to myinnerharbour(at)gmail.com to inquire about booking.
  15.  Any events or workshops offered by My Inner Harbour's staff are included in your membership. Non-members are welcome to attend and pay a workshop fee. Fees will vary depending on the event or workshop. Events and workshops offered by other local practitioners may have a fee associated with them.
  16. My Inner Harbour is not a mental health clinic and does not provide counselling or mental health support at this time. We are happy to assist you in locating a mental health therapist in the community. If you are in crisis please call the Vancouver Island Crisis Line at 1-888-494-3888 or visit the nearest emergency room.
  17. My Inner Harbour is not a medical clinic and does not provide medical advice or support. Please speak to your doctor or visit a walk-in clinic if you have health concerns.
  18. While My Inner Harbour’s goal is to support the well-being of members through providing self-care activities, My Inner Harbour cannot guarantee the effectiveness of these methods for individual members. Wellness is impacted by numerous factors with self-care practices being only one of them. All members are unique and have individual needs. If a member is dissatisfied with the service being provided membership can be cancelled at any time.
  19. We will not tolerate discrimination, bullying or harassment of staff or members. We strive to be an inclusive environment, where we continue to learn how best to welcome and support people of every demographic and community. Everyone has a right to feel welcome as themselves.
  20. Conflict is a normal part of life and exists in most spaces. When conflict arises between members we will aim to listen carefully to the concerns of all parties and work toward consensus on a way forward. We expect members to demonstrate a willingness to give each other the benefit of the doubt and assume that resolution will be possible.
  21. Have we missed something? Constructive feedback is welcome! We are committed to listening and learning so that we can co-create a beautiful space. As a new and growing organization, we may not always be able to address a need or make a change immediately, however we want to learn and make plans for the future!
