    How are you really doing?

A facilitated space for realness and presence over the summer months, in the style of The Way of Council (waysofcouncil.net)

Hosted by Jude Wong, RPC, certified in The Way of Council and Compassionate Communication.

    Description

Facing challenges over the summer can be particularly isolating, in a season that expects us to be happy and thriving, vacationing with family, adventuring in the world. When we are facing challenges in our relationships, health, or finances, finding safe spaces to speak honestly about what's really happening for us can be especially difficult during summer, while equally vital, powerful and potentially transformative.

Loosely based on the format of The Way of Council, each session will begin with mindfulness and grounding. Each share will be gently timed and receive simple reflection from Jude of core statements, feelings, and needs. We will have one or two full rounds, depending on the size of the group, and close with a brief witnessing round -- phrases and ideas we've heard that have resonated.

The group space supports finding our voices, deepening our compassion for ourselves and each other, and remembering our interconnectedness. Each person's sharing time is uninterrupted. We refrain from cross-talk, physical contact, and unsolicited advice, sharing when, how, and what we feel comfortable sharing; and we hold what is shared in a sacred way.

Family Estrangement is unfortunately a common lived experience for many and there are very few local resources.

In order to support others going through the isolation and stigma involved in family estrangement Tabitha is starting up a peer-led group for anyone who finds themselves in this situation. Both individuals who have chosen to become estranged from family and those who have family members choosing to estrange themselves are welcome.

This group will run every other Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00pm in the Community Room starting July 10th. It is a free group, with donations gratefully accepted.

5 Week Summer Trauma Book Club

Trauma + Romance novel? Yes it's weird. It will also be fun!

... Did you say romance novel?

Yes! Modern romance novels are stories about trauma recovery! If you’re used to old-school harlequin romances or you have no history with romance novels at all - surprise! Romance is about hurt and healing now! Relationship tensions are rooted in characters' trauma histories. And the happily-ever-after ending requires that characters heal their sh*t (.. At least a little bit).

    Why a book club?

Exploring trauma can be... Well. Kind of traumatic. Focusing on fictional characters instead of real people lets us learn about trauma and healing in a gentler, more playful way.

Meet the Book Club Facilitator: Hi! My name is Kaitlyn! I work as a counsellor, specialized in complex trauma (that's the kind of trauma that people do to one another over time). I offer individual and group counselling for people whose histories include trauma, neglect, self hatred, overwhelm, neurodiversity, institutional violence, parts/systems experiences, and chronic pain.

I see counselling as a way for you to become empowered in your own healing. My approach has been described as warm, open, and creative.

You can learn more about Kaitlyn here: https://www.expressivewellness.ca/kaitlyn.html

This isn't your typical support group - it's a thoughtfully designed space where you can:

    • Gain insights about trauma without triggering your own

    • Learn through engaging fictional characters rather than personal disclosure

    • Connect with trauma recovery in a safe, structured environment

    • Discover how healing unfolds in relatable, human stories
